This research explores transnationalism as a contemporary reality that 'saturates' everyday life in ways that leave none of us unaffected. Specifically, it responds to the AHRC 'Translating Cultures' theme and looks at the ways transnational flows (of people, ideas, culture, etc.) are being remediated in today's German-language literature. • It gives me great pleasure to be recommending a new book written by a very accomplished editor, author, and storyteller. I met Peter Midgley when I was the Alberta sales rep for University of Alberta Press where he continues to work as Acquisitions Editor. A few years ago, Peter asked me to read a portion of the manuscript that has gone on to become his latest release,Counting Teeth. I knew then, from reading just that small portion of text, that this book would be an important one when it was published, and from that moment I also wanted to have a hand in promoting the book and its author. So I am very happy to feature Peter Midgley as today’s Reading Recommendation!

This fall, Read Alberta and the WGA are collaborating on a series of articles that consider artificial intelligence and how it will affect writers and publishers. WGA members who wish to read more can continue the conversation that has already been started in the latest edition of WestWord.

Readers who are not WGA members are invited to join the WGA to get access to the latest issue, and to the many other benefits WGA membership can offer them.

In one guise, I am a philosophy scholar who works on the epistemology and morality of belief, specifically belief that engages conspiracy theories. Among the questions I ask in my work are whether it is possible to säga that some beliefs are morally bad? My other research interests include climate change ethics, meaning in life, and the apocalypse. These interests converge in my creative writing and my explorations into artificial intelligence, and ultimately shape how inom approach this discussion.
