  • Maternal factors during pregnancy influencing maternal, fetal and childhood outcomes

A myriad of maternal factors (including pre-existing conditions, environmental exposures, and genetic predisposition) are known to influence pregnancy, childbirth, and the health of both the mother and her child during pregnancy and long after birth. Collectively, these issues represent a serious and growing burden on expectant mothers and their children; for example, in the United States, gestational diabetes is thought to affect between 2 and 10% of mothers each year (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), and around 1 in babies are stillborn (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

Understanding how these factors can influence outcomes for both mother and child, as well as identifying novel factors that medla these effects, is crucial in addressing this global probl

The author recollects his studentship during th years at the Physics Department of the Moscow University. He was graduated from the theoretical Physics Department in The Rectors of the University that times were I.G. Petrovskii, R.V. Khokhlov and A.A. Logunov. The dean of the Physics Department was V.S. Fursov. As a particular event a meet with the former prime-minister of the USSR A.N. Kosygin is reported. Between professors mentioned throughout the recollections are orodskii, Ya. B. Zel'dovich, D.D. Ivanenko, A.A. Sokolov, A.A. Vlasov, V.B. Braginsky, I.M. Ternov, L.A. Artsimovich, E.P. Velikhov and other, including that which became University professors later. A great number of colleagues from the Physics, Chemistry, Phylological and Historical Departments of the Moscow University are mentioned. Particularly, the students which entered the gro

A Targeted Catalytic Nanobody (T-CAN) with Asparaginolytic Activity

    Abstract

    Simple Summary

The therapy of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is based on Escherichia coli (E. coli) L-asparaginase, which is a very effective drug in most cases. However, its side effects sometimes prevent its usage or impose its interruption. The main issues derive from its bacterial origin, which elicits a strong immune response in the patient, and from its generalized action on all body compartments. In this work, we describe how we generated a fully active and miniaturized form of L-asparaginase starting from a camel single domain antibody, a class of antibodies known to have a very limited immunogenicity in humans. We also targeted it onto tumor cells by attaching it to an antibody fragment directed onto the CD19 B-cell surface receptor, expressed on ALL cells. We named this new molecule “Targeted Catalytic Nanobody” (T-CAN). The T-CAN is active and successfully binds to CD19 expressing cell
