Early Life
Barbra Joan Streisand was born on April 24, 1942, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to Diana Rosen and Emanuel Streisand. Streisand's father was a high school English teacher who died from complications of an epileptic seizure when Streisand was only 15 months old.
Her mother, Diana, raised Streisand and her older brother, Sheldon, by working as a secretary in the New York City public school system, but the family barely survived on the brink of poverty. Barbara Joan "Barbra" Streisand (born April 24, 1942) is an Americansinger, actress, producer, and director. She has won multiple Emmy Awards, Grammy Awards and Golden Globe awards.
Her grandparents on her father's side of the family were from Galicia. (That region is now in Ukraine and Poland.).[1][2] She is of Jewishdescent.[3]
