Irene Borden-Arruda
Irene (Alves) Borden-Arruda, 85, of Dartmouth died Wednesday, April 2, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was wife of the late Emerson A. Borden. Born in Fall River, she was daughter of the late John and Virginia (Moniz) Alves. Prior to retirement, she was a C.N.A. for several nursing homes in the area.
Survivors include 4 sons: Thomas E. Borden, Timothy E. Borden, David B. Borden and Paul E. Borden all of Westport; 4 daughters: Alice E. Magnin of NJ, Frances I. Butler of Westport, Mary Lou Borden of FL and Beverly A. Johnston of Fall River; 2 sisters: Mary Ringuette of FL and Dorothy McLaughlin of FL; a step-brother; 4 step-sisters; 17 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, April 4, at the POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 81 Reed Rd., Westport at P.M. Calling hours will be Friday from A.M. to P.M. prior to the service. Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery,

Borden, Irene D. Copy writer, author of one of the most familiar jingles of early television advertising, passed away July 18 at the age of After graduating from West High School in Minneapolis in , she headed KROC Radio in Rochester, MN where she penned some of the most creative advertising on Minnesota airwaves. A pioneer of women in the advertising business, Ms. Borden joined the team of artists and writers at Dayton's department store in Minneapolis in the early s. At a time when product producers retained the right to any ad content created by Dayton's copy writers, Irene's clever, poetic and catchy lines caught the eye of clients and spread nationwide. The memorable rhyming jingle "Use new White Rain shampoo tonight, and tomorrow your hair will be sunshine bright" was written by Ms. Borden. Early life

Borden, nicknamed Pete, was born in Boulder, Colorado, in He was one of the seven children of Edmund and Irene Borden.[2] He graduated from the University of Colorado in , with a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) degree. On advice of his economics professor, he decided to focus on a teaching career in the framträdande field of business ledning. In beställning to finance his higher studies, he worked as a principal at the Lafayette High School during – His economics professor helped him get a scholarship at Columbia University.
