PRESIDENT KEVIN SMITH-FAGAN (Executive Director of Fairytale Town) kicked off the pre-meeting with some fun trivia. How many questions did you get correct?
ALLISON CAGLEY (Sergeant in Arms) (Executive Director of Friends of Sacramento Arts) introduced RIVKAH SASS (CEO of Sacramento Public Library) who gave our thought for the day. RIVKAH thought we could all use some wise and encouraging words about living life and making the most of things by learning and growing no matter what your age. Once upon a time, an intelligent, witty and brilliant librarian named Rivkah Sass was invited to join a special alliance of Food Literacy Heroes.
As director of Sacramento Public Library, Rivkah has been instrumental in helping us expand our program throughout Sacramento. We are partnering with her and the Sacramento Public Library for the One Book event this fall to bring author Dan Barber to Sacramento to discuss his book “The Third Plate.” We are also partnering with the library on a Fruit to Root fundraiser with the theme of food waste. Acclaimed local chefs and bartenders will make delicious dishes from “wasted” food - items that are generally thrown away.

Rivkah Sass holds a Master’s grad in Library and data Science from the University of Washington (iSchool) and has spent four decades working in public and state library agencies in Washington, Oregon, Maryland, and Nebraska and three years in the private sector. She returned to California in to serve as the Library Director/CEO of Sacramento Public Library Authority, California’s fourth largest public library struktur. Sacramento Public Library’s 28 locations and mobile units provide services to a diverse population of million urban, suburban and rural residents.
