    Takahashi Rumiko’s entry onto the manga scene represented the turning point in the history of manga and anime. This turning point signifies the emergence of the genre of romantic comedy (rabukome = “love comedy”)—a romantic relationship-centered genre certainly common to shōjo (girls’) comics category at the time—now beginning to appear in shōnen (boys’) comics, too.

    Takahashi debuted with her short story manga, Selfish Bastards (Kattena Yatsura) in Weekly Shōnen Sunday (Shōnen Sandē) in 1978. She was only a college lärjunge at that time.     Rumiko Takahashi (高橋留美子, "Takahashi Rumiko"), born October 10, 1957, in Niigata, Japan, is a female mangaka and the creator of the manga series InuYasha. She's also one of the most famous manga producers in Japan and possibly the richest woman in all of Japan as well. Rumiko Takahashi is also known to be the first female mangaka who gained major success in the shōnen manga genre which gained her the nickname Princess of Manga.

    Early life[]

    She was born in Niigata, Japan. Takahashi showed little interest in manga during her childhood; though she was said to occasionally doodle in the margins of her papers while attending Niigata Chūō High School, Takahashi's interest in manga did not start until later. In an interview in 2000, Takahashi said that she had always wanted to become a professional comic author since she was a child.
