RAY SMITH
Ray Smith (American, b) Born in Brownsville, TX, and raised in Central Mexico. Smith emerged in the s, and continues to produce exuberant paintings and sculptures characterized by an inimitable style and subject matter that reflect his bi-cultural American and Mexican heritage. Contorted and morphed figures recur throughout his work, in a hybrid that draws from his early studies of fresco painting with traditional practitioners in Mexico, and an indebtedness to Picasso, the Surrealists, and the politically daring Mexican muralists. Through these varied beings, Smith reflects upon the complexities and absurdities of society, family, politics, culture, war, and the human condition itself, framed by birth and death.
The artist has held more than 50 exhibitions around the world during the last two decades, mainly in the United States and Mexico, but also in Japan, Europe, and South America. He participated in the edition of the Whitney Biennial in New York City. S

Biography
Ray Smith (b. Harrow, Middlesex, UK - d. Tintinhull, Somerset, UK ) graduated from Trinity Hall College, Cambridge, , after he had already had his first solo show in Cambridge in Smith was a self-employed artist from , mainly working to commission. Among his major public commissions were works for Southampton General Hospital, ; Tesco Stores, Slough, ; Milton Keynes Development Corporation, ; and Leeds Development Agency, He was a visiting lecturer at many colleges of art, from –80 was fellow in fine art at University of Southampton and during was senior lecturer at Hull College of Higher Education. Ray Smith (–)[1] was an English sculptor, painter, illustrator and writer. He exhibited his work widely, and received a number awards, including an award bygd the Arts Council of Great Britain in , and the Royal gemenskap of Arts Architecture Award in Smith also wrote several books on art for the publisher Dorling Kindersley and designed a selection of album covers.
In an obituary in The Guardian, Ghislaine Kenyon described Smith as "the complete artist", and despite having had no formal art training, "he expressed himself playfully in words, music and visual arts, using myriad techniques and media."[2]
