12th ESSE CONFERENCE
DOCTORAL SESSIONS
Young scholars who are writing their PhD theses in English Studies and are at least in the second year of their studies at the time of ESSE Conference in Košice will make a brief presentation of their work-in-progress at one of three doctoral sessions in the fields of English Language, Literatures in English, and Cultural and Area Studies. These presentations should deal with the issues addressed or hypotheses tested in the thesis, the results so far obtained, and above all the methodology applied, with the purpose of gaining feedback from peers and established scholars in the field. Each presentation will last 10 minutes, followed by 15 minutes’ discussion.
Each workshop will be coordinated by two international experts, who will act as co-convenors and will make a selection from the applications received. Note that PhD students attending the doctoral sessions may attend the full ESSE Conference at a reduced fee. Presentation at a doctoral

The Department of English at Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bengaluru, organised a movie screening and critique session titled Print to Pixel for III semester MA English students. The session featured the film adaptation of Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner, based on his renowned novel. The film delves into themes of friendship, betrayal, guilt, redemption, and the complexities of human relationships, set against Afghanistan's turbulent history. It follows Amir and Hassan, two boys from different social classes, whose friendship is tested by societal divisions, leading to a heartbreaking journey of regret and redemption.
